STATEMENT: “Art is LIFE. LiFE IS ART. HOW GREAT THOU ART.”

PROCESS: Working with oil or acrylic paint, home made or found paper, small pencil sketches, quick gestural painting, scraps of lists and canvas pad or board, I create pieces that are colorful and draw the curious eye. I pride myself on being a responsible mother, wife, daughter, teacher, counselor and business partner. In my studio I can cut up. As an artist I make “ransom notes” where I say things without feeling I have to be responsive. It is tons of fun!

I find working in stages fits my expression and my life. During my studio time and when everyone is sleeping, I paint, draw, cut, all the images in my head to create a larger piece. The subjects most often reflect issues of time, travel and nature. The image of a coffee cup or a bloom emerges into the piece reflecting on a particular time of the day or a season. Some work is based on an “inspirational theme” set before me by my “artsy” writing and photography peers! This process and has come to symbolize moments of peaceful contemplation for me, one at which I treasure the moment.

My home is my art and art is my home. My home studio space is now filled with paintings, prints, books, and colorful objects. It embodies my interest in art history, the rural landscape, architecture, my life overseas, student teaching, housework, and motherhood. My muse and inspiration is the whimsy of children, always moving and entertaining! I want their energy!

Both local and national establishments have shown my work. Back in the 1980s I earned B of Architecture degree at theUniversityofTexas,Austin. In addition to painting and exhibiting, I am an art instructor, inspiring kids to take up their creativity and run with it.
